Seolleung Station Rejuran: Do Skin Boosters Help Under-Eye Fine Lines? Cause-Specific Treatment and Precautions
Explains the main causes of under-eye fine lines, how hyaluronic acid and PN skin boosters work, what clinical studies show, and key precautions before treatment.

Hello, I am Kim Dajeong, Director of Cordia Clinic.

Some people notice more fine lines under their eyes when they look in the mirror, or feel self-conscious when the skin around their eyes crinkles up when they smile.
The under-eye area is especially prone to showing even small changes, since its skin is thinner than in other areas of the face.
To improve these under-eye fine lines, many people consider Rejuran or hyaluronic acid skin boosters.
So, do skin boosters actually work for under-eye fine lines?
Today, we will look at what causes under-eye fine lines, how skin boosters work, and what clinical studies have found.
1. What causes under-eye fine lines?
The skin under the eyes has a thinner dermis and less subcutaneous fat than other areas of the face.
In addition, the orbicularis oculi muscle around the eyes moves repeatedly when we blink or smile, which makes wrinkles more likely to form.
Under-eye fine lines can be broadly divided into three main causes.

① Dry skin and dehydration
When the skin lacks moisture, fine surface lines can become more noticeable.
② Collagen loss and reduced skin elasticity
As we age, changes in the collagen and elastic fibers of the dermis can cause the skin to thin and fine lines to deepen.
③ Repeated facial expressions
Lines that form repeatedly when smiling or squinting can become permanent over time and remain visible even at rest.
Because under-eye fine lines have many different causes, the same treatment is not suitable for every type of wrinkle.
2. How do skin boosters work on under-eye fine lines?
"Skin booster" is a general term for injectable treatments used to improve overall skin condition, including hydration, elasticity, and skin texture.
Representative ingredients include hyaluronic acid (HA) and polynucleotide (PN)-based formulations.
Hyaluronic acid skin boosters
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that binds water and contributes to skin hydration and the physical properties of tissue.

Some hyaluronic acid injectables have been studied for their potential to improve skin hydration, elasticity, and fine wrinkles.
In particular, improvements in skin condition may be seen in thin fine lines that become more pronounced due to dryness.
PN-based skin boosters
PN is a polymer derived from DNA, and research has focused on its potential to promote skin regeneration and improve the tissue environment.

Clinical studies have reported positive results related to improvements in elasticity, skin texture, and fine lines around the eyes.
However, these findings do not necessarily apply equally to all PN products or injection methods.
3. What effects have actually been confirmed in clinical studies?
A randomized, double-blind study published in 2022 included 27 participants and compared a PN formulation injected on one side of the eye area with a non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid formulation injected on the other side.
As a result, both treatments showed improvement in the skin around the eyes, and the PN-treated side showed more favorable changes in some measures of skin elasticity, hydration, and texture.
However, no statistically significant difference between the two treatments was found in the overall aesthetic improvement assessment.
Additionally, a systematic review published in October 2026 examined six studies involving a total of 350 participants.
The analysis showed that PN injection treatment may lead to short-term improvements in eye-area wrinkles and skin condition.
However, most studies were conducted over relatively short periods, and evidence on long-term effects beyond six months and on safety was limited.
In short, the effects of skin boosters in the eye area have been confirmed in some clinical studies, but the magnitude and duration of results vary between individuals, and further research is needed.
4. Which types of under-eye wrinkles are suitable for skin boosters?
Skin boosters are not a treatment for every type of under-eye wrinkle.
For example, fine lines that appear as the skin becomes dry and thin can be considered for skin boosters to improve hydration and elasticity.

On the other hand, expression lines that form when the muscles around the eyes contract during smiling may be better suited to botulinum toxin. However, because the under-eye area can affect muscle function, careful evaluation is especially important.
Likewise, if the cause is under-eye fat protrusion, a tear trough hollow, or significant skin laxity, skin boosters alone are unlikely to provide sufficient improvement.
Therefore, it is important to first determine whether under-eye wrinkles stem from the skin itself or from muscle movement or structural changes.
5. What should you watch out for with under-eye skin booster treatments?
The under-eye area has thin skin and a network of blood vessels, so bruising and swelling after treatment can be relatively noticeable.

Depending on the properties of the injected ingredient, the depth of injection, and the amount used, temporary bumpiness (embossing), swelling, or an uneven skin surface may occur.
In particular, depending on the product and injection site, hyaluronic acid fillers may cause persistent swelling or a bluish tint showing through the skin.
In rare cases, vascular damage or accidental intravascular injection can lead to serious complications, so it is important to confirm that a product is suitable for use around the eyes and to fully consider the anatomy of the area.
Because the under-eye area is sensitive to pain, it is advisable to thoroughly discuss not only whether treatment is necessary, but also the anesthesia method, injection volume, and expected discomfort.
If you experience severe pain, skin color changes, or vision problems after treatment, seek medical evaluation immediately.
6. Under-eye fine lines: what matters most is treatment that matches the cause
Under-eye fine lines are not caused by dehydration alone.
Skin thickness, collagen changes, muscle movement, and the structural characteristics of the under-eye area all interact.
Hyaluronic acid and PN-based skin boosters are among the treatment options that may improve skin hydration, elasticity, and fine lines.
However, they do not completely resolve deep wrinkles or significant sagging, and results are not the same for everyone.
In treating under-eye fine lines, identifying the exact cause of the wrinkles comes before choosing which skin booster to use.
It is best to thoroughly assess the condition of the under-eye skin and the wrinkle type, then decide on a treatment approach by weighing the expected degree of improvement against the risks of the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do under-eye fine lines form?
Under-eye fine lines form easily because the skin is thin and the orbicularis oculi muscle moves often. Common causes include dryness, collagen loss, and repeated facial expressions. Because there are many causes, one treatment does not suit every wrinkle.
Do skin boosters work for under-eye fine lines?
Some clinical studies have shown potential short-term improvement in eye-area fine lines and skin condition. However, the extent and duration of results vary from person to person, and evidence on long-term effects beyond six months and on safety is limited.
Which under-eye wrinkles are suitable for skin boosters?
Fine lines that form on dry, thinned skin may be considered for skin boosters. Expression lines that appear when smiling may be better suited to botulinum toxin, while fat protrusion, tear trough hollowing, or significant sagging are unlikely to improve with skin boosters alone.
What side effects can occur after skin booster treatment?
Bruising and swelling can be relatively noticeable after treatment, and temporary bumpiness (embossing), swelling, or an uneven skin surface may occur. Hyaluronic acid fillers may also cause persistent swelling or a bluish tint showing through the skin. In rare cases, serious complications such as vascular damage can occur.
What should I do if these symptoms occur after treatment?
If you experience severe pain, skin color changes, or vision problems, seek medical evaluation immediately. This article presents these as warning signs to watch for with under-eye skin booster treatments.
